Welcome to Omak School District!

A Message from our Superintendent - September 28, 2020...

Dear Omak School District Families/Guardians, Staff, Students and Community Members,

We are excited to see the number of new COVID-19 cases dropping throughout the Okanogan County!  I want to thank you for your efforts to reopen our schools through your sacrifices of social distancing, wearing face masks and frequent hand washing.  Schools don’t reopen schools – communities do!

Elementary Students

We have been planning our K-5 face-to-face instruction to begin on October 12.  More details will come from your schools, but the following are some of the basics:

·       As all students and staff are still required to check their temperature at the entrances of each building, wear face masks and maintain 6 feet of distancing in classrooms and hallways, spacing issues prevent us from bringing back all of our students together.

·       Teachers in grades K-5 have been dividing their students into two groups.

o   Group A will come to schools on Monday-Tuesday

o   Group B will come to schools on Thursday-Friday

o   Thorough cleaning will take place on Wednesdays to prepare for the next group

o   Students will continue with remote learning on the days that they are not face-to-face

o   Our goal is to have families come on the same day.  Please let your school know if there is a discrepancy or if you would like your children to continue with remote learning for now.

·   The face-to-face schedule will stay approximately the same as the remote learning schedule for consistency.  Students will come to school in the morning and return home around lunchtime.

·       Families may still continue with remote learning if they wish, as we are continuing with our remote curriculum when face-to-face for consistency.

·       We are continuing to deliver meals on the bus for now.  Students who come to school on their face-to-face days will be provided with both breakfast and lunch.

·       Busing is still a challenge for social distancing.  If you can, please deliver and pick up your child.  If you need your child to ride the bus, please contact your school office to fill out a bus form.

·    Preschool will have a slightly different schedule which teachers will share with their preschool families.

Secondary Students

·       Currently we are continuing our remote learning, but planning for face-to-face instruction soon.

·       More details will come from your schools soon.

School Calendar Change

We found a way to make up the four days when we were closed due to the fires.  The revised calendar will be posted on our website and reflects the following:

·   October 12 and February 12 are now school days. These were previously scheduled professional development days for staff, but will now take place on two Saturdays.

·       November 23 is now a school day.  Conferences will now be November 24-25.

·       School will now end on June 18.

It is exciting to finally get the opportunity to bring our students back to schools!  We are proceeding cautiously because we want to avoid the disappointments of other schools that have had to quickly shut back down because of COVID-19 outbreaks in their districts. Thank you for your patience and kindness as we constantly adjust our plans to bring students back as quickly and as safely as we can.

Your continued support is greatly appreciated,

Michael Porter,
Omak Superintendent

Michael Porter

Omak FFA collected donations for two fellow FFA Families whose homes were destroyed in the
Bridgeport area fire. Both families have homes to go to but needed household items to get
established. Donations were accepted and delivered by our FFA crew. Thank you to our
