North Elementary Preschool continues to learn about Salmon as part of our Spring Salmon Curriculum. Tracey Edwards came and showed the Preschoolers his salmon fishing pole, net, and other fishing gear. Miss Leslie read the book “A Lost River,” illustrated by the late Smoker Marchand. Students also got to taste some canned, smoked, and wind-dried salmon if they wanted. Several of our students couldn’t get enough of the salmon. 😊 Our Preschoolers will be participating in a salmon release in about 1½ weeks.

In March, East Omak Elementary's PE teacher, Mr. Agee and 4th grade teacher, Mrs. Agee attended the Growing School Gardens Summit. This conference was funded by the National Association of Conservation Districts and a Slow Foods grant. Sixteen educators from across Okanogan County, representing eight school gardens in our county, were in attendance with over 500 other school garden advocates from across the country! Mr. and Mrs. Agee learned about planning gardens and techniques in the planting of various crops within school gardens. Mr. and Mrs. Agee are using the training they received to start an after-school garden club this month, where students will learn to maintain garden beds, tend the plants and soil, and hopefully develop plans to grow food at home!

Bikes for Books North students have been reading nightly to earn tickets to win a new bike. The Masons of Okanogan County donated six bikes to be given away for North’s Bikes for Books event. A lucky girl and boy from each grade were chosen to receive a new bike. This is such a special event for our students, and we are thankful for the generous donations from the Masons.
