In March, East Omak Elementary's PE teacher, Mr. Agee and 4th grade teacher, Mrs. Agee attended the Growing School Gardens Summit. This conference was funded by the National Association of Conservation Districts and a Slow Foods grant. Sixteen educators from across Okanogan County, representing eight school gardens in our county, were in attendance with over 500 other school garden advocates from across the country! Mr. and Mrs. Agee learned about planning gardens and techniques in the planting of various crops within school gardens. Mr. and Mrs. Agee are using the training they received to start an after-school garden club this month, where students will learn to maintain garden beds, tend the plants and soil, and hopefully develop plans to grow food at home!
