East Elementary Ms. Wilson's 3rd-grade class had an opportunity to have Cpl. Wilson, Deputy Lewis, and K9 Gambit from CCRJC in Wenatchee come and spend the day with them. The officers come and hang out with the kids, teach them what K9 Gambit does, all about what a day doing their job is like, and watch K9 Gambit do some training exercises. They also did an outdoor presentation for the entire third grade and the Life Skills class. It is one of the highlights of the year for the kids.

Jessica Olsen chose Ray because: I want to pass the cup to Miss Ray. Her continued respect, appreciation, acknowledgment, and support of each student never go unnoticed. She is dedicated to building relationships with both staff and students. I enjoy working with Miss Ray and look forward to many more years! Thank you for being you, Miss Ray! Joneen Ingram chose Tiarha because: I'm happy to pass the cup to Tiarha Agee. She is an incredible teacher and teammate and has an excellent sense of humor☺️ She goes above and beyond on the 4th grade team and with her students. She is a great problem solver and takes challenges head on. She is always willing to take the lead, or to pitch in to help in any way that she can. She develops great ideas and helps her team come up with plans that keep our students engaged in their learning. She also does an excellent job with her students creating lasting relationships and a love of learning. We are very lucky to have Tiarha on our team, she is a great asset to our school. Congratulations and well deserved!

In 2022 the Omak School District partnered with MacDonald-Miller Mechanical to upgrade our HVAC systems in four of our Omak School District buildings. With our fastidious maintenance, these systems had gone well-beyond their typical 20-year lifespans. The district utilized federal ESSER dollars to fund the project to improve the energy efficiency and air quality for our students, staff and community. After completing this project, the Omak School District received an incentive rebate check from the Bonneville Power Administration (BPA) for the energy savings that this project created within our district. The district is proud to continue partnering with the Okanogan PUD and the BPA to use the incentive monies in our efforts to improve energy efficiency across our district through additional maintenance and upgrades.

North Elementary Preschool continues to learn about Salmon as part of our Spring Salmon Curriculum. Tracey Edwards came and showed the Preschoolers his salmon fishing pole, net, and other fishing gear. Miss Leslie read the book “A Lost River,” illustrated by the late Smoker Marchand. Students also got to taste some canned, smoked, and wind-dried salmon if they wanted. Several of our students couldn’t get enough of the salmon. 😊 Our Preschoolers will be participating in a salmon release in about 1½ weeks.

In March, East Omak Elementary's PE teacher, Mr. Agee and 4th grade teacher, Mrs. Agee attended the Growing School Gardens Summit. This conference was funded by the National Association of Conservation Districts and a Slow Foods grant. Sixteen educators from across Okanogan County, representing eight school gardens in our county, were in attendance with over 500 other school garden advocates from across the country! Mr. and Mrs. Agee learned about planning gardens and techniques in the planting of various crops within school gardens. Mr. and Mrs. Agee are using the training they received to start an after-school garden club this month, where students will learn to maintain garden beds, tend the plants and soil, and hopefully develop plans to grow food at home!

East Omak Elementary On March 22, the 4th grade Math Is Cool team traveled to Wenatchee to participate in the 4th Grade Math Is Cool Competition. Our 30-member team was comprised of twenty-two 4th graders and eight 3rd graders. There, they competed with 300 kids from schools across our state. They ended up taking 3rd place in our division, comprised of 13 schools. Three of our students placed in the top 10 scores out of 147 students competing:  Brittany Klett (4th) took 1st, Rory Miller (4th) took 8th place, and Kawhi Bolauro (4th) took 10th. Brittany Klett also received the high point award for the highest score from our school. 4th grade students began preparing for this competition back in November 2023. They practiced twice a week, working on units of study to build a solid Math foundation and to develop critical thinking and problem solving, essential parts of the competition. This year, Mrs. Ingram began coaching 3rd graders in January so we could start building an advanced Math track for our students. She worked with 27 students; eight were later selected to join the 4th grade Math Is Cool team at the competition. They were a vital part of the team's overall success. Since the team placed so well, they have been invited to compete in the Math Masters competition in Moses Lake on May 18th.  One team will continue to practice until then.   Congratulations to our remarkable Math Is Cool team for their outstanding performance, dedication, and unwavering spirit of excellence!
