East Omak Elementary’s 5th grade hosted a Cinco de Mayo celebration honoring our community’s Hispanic people. This event introduced students to the Hispanic culture in an engaging and entertaining way. Students experienced authentic Hispanic traditions as well as cuisine! Students enjoyed presentations by local community members Monica & Pablo Ibarra and their daughter Perla. Adamarys Montoya was also in attendance, wearing authentic folkloric regalia to exhibit her family’s dancing tradition. Each classroom offered a different educational experience, such as creating Hispanic art, displaying museum artifacts, viewing agricultural connections, and enjoying traditional meal offerings. Students responded positively to the event, and all involved wanted to see it repeated annually.
